How are you creative?
This made me giggle a little because this entire blog is part of how I am creative. Also because I have a post planned for later today about a creative challenge I will be taking part in over the next two weeks.
I will say that recognizing my creativity has been a bit of a battle. I am slowly learning that even when I follow a pattern or use tools like stencils to help me create things, I am still creative. I have always been creative, just hard on myself about it.
I am a writer, obviously. But before this kind of writing I wrote poetry and even a short story that I never finished. I’ll get the link to those old writings up on the page later today. It’s been on my list anyway. I’ve also written fantasies for my partners. Those do not get shared of course. And plenty of creative writing assignments in school.
I color. I have colored since long before the adult coloring crazy that is currently going on. I enjoy coloring patterns and mandalas more than scenes but I’ve been exploring scene coloring more lately thanks to some new friends and recommendations. I have used markers and gel pens and colored pencils and now fountain pen. I have dabbled in pastels, less for coloring and more for art for arts sake.
I have done stained glass and faux stained glass. I etch glass. I have even blown glass. I have done metal smithing. I used to make micromaille jewelry. I made regular jewelry a lot. It was a common gift for me to give as a teen to my father’s side of the family as he encouraged it and would take me shopping for the beads. I wood burn. I have used that skill to make props and set dressing for plays I was involved in and to make gifts and even sold a few items. Same with the glass etching.
I knit, crochet, cross stitch, and embroider. I am constantly working on one or more of these types of projects. I have recently tried my hand at mandala dot painting and am about to try needle felting again. I do not think I have met a creative endeavor I haven’t tried or wanted to try.
As you can see, how I am creative is just sort of my existence. It is as much a part of me as the logical and intuitive aspects that allow me to process the world the way I do. I think my creative mind is a large part of that. It allows me to see things from the detached perspective one needs when creating to see how it would appear to others.
