What is your all time favorite automobile?
I’m not a car person. I don’t have an all time favorite automobile. I don’t even drive anymore, the anxiety got too bad and I live with 2 wonderful people who are willing to drive me when I need to go somewhere. I can however talk about the automobile I owned that I loved the most.
My Jeep Renegade. I loved that thing so much I bought it twice. The first time I bought it was right after getting a big pay increase at work. My Prius had 100k miles on it and while in great condition for a 10 year old car was getting to the point where maintenance and repairs if needed were expensive and not necessarily worth the cost. Plus, I had a job that was considered essential and after going through a winter of multiple blizzards, I needed something better for the snow than a Prius. Shopping happened. It was an experience for another post. I ended up with a beautiful blue Jeep Renegade that had most of the features I was looking for and all of the very important ones. It was also the first automobile that I drove that truly felt comfortable in. I’m 4’8.5” (yes the half inch matters) and finding cars I can drive easily is a challenge and a half. This one fit like a glove. Its style was also super cute.
A few years later, much sooner than needed or I would normally have gotten one, I ended up upgrading it to one of the exact same color but with all the safety features that I wanted this time. In fact thats one of the only reasons I upgraded. While it was a newer model the changes were minor enough that it was still extremely comfortable and I did feel comfortable driving. Almost, almost to the point of enjoying it like I once did before the anxiety got so bad. But ultimately last year, when we were preparing to move to this house and looking at few financial pieces, the three of us decided that it was silly to keep my car. I would always default to having my husband or my partner drive me when possible and Jeep no longer made Renegades. This meant that eventually parts would be scarce and expensive. Plus the car was paid off and made for a valuable trade in for a new car for my partner who desperately needed one.
Sometimes I miss that Jeep but I know I made the right call.
