Snowman

Today’s prompt for the Xmas Magic challenge was Snowman. Can’t build a real one here in Florida, we don’t get snow. I can however recreate the fun of doing so and that was the goal of today’s creative exercise.

I have had in my arts and crafts cabinet for sometime now the majority of a foam snowman ornament kit. When I saw the prompt list, my mind immediately went to this kit for this prompt. However, as this is a creative challenge, I didn’t want to just follow the kit instructions.

I asked my partner to join me for this one. We used the bits from the kit but also other items I had around to decorate the snowman. The idea was to recreate two important aspects we both experienced building snowmen as children. One was the joy of doing it with your friends and family. The other was scavenging around for things to decorate the snowman with.

We used washi tape, PET stickers, and extra bits from diamond paintings to add our personal touches. For the little bit of time we were working on these it was like being kids again. Being creative and silly. Decorating the snowmen however we wish. We each did 2. I think they came out adorable. Instead of using them as ornaments I attached them to the side of my partner’s Xbox so they can look at our little snowman family and remember this little activity.

Its fun to do little things like this that take us back to our childhoods and remind us that creativity and art don’t have to be serious .
