Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?
I would say I think more about the future than the past. I’ve touched on this a little bit before. In general, I don’t like thinking about the past because we can’t change it. We can learn from it, sure, but to me thats part of thinking about the future. I also don’t like to dwell on mistakes because if I allow myself to do that, the dwelling becomes heavy and oppressive. It will consume me and impact my present. Looking forward means thinking about new adventures and new skills. It’s hopeful more than regretful. Also, I’m a planner. This means I need to think about the future so I can make all the arrangements. Schedule flights, book hotels, save money. My role in our household is to futureproof the finances and the household in general. By definition that means I have to think about the future. This doesn’t mean I don’t have my nostalgic moments or even my trauma triggers from the past, it just means I am forward focused rather than backward.
