Fire

Today’s Xmas Magic challenge prompt is fire. Fire comes in many forms, especially during the holidays. There are fireplace fires for keeping warm. Fires in the oven and on the stove to cook the food. Fireworks. Some places have bonfires. There’s also tons of candle flames. Candles decorate the table and the houses. There are candlelight processionals.

Candle flames was the the inspiration for tonight’s picture. When I first saw the prompt, my brain immediately jumped to the idea of “moths to a flame.” Fortunately for me, Johanna Basford designed the perfect page for this in her book “Secret Garden.”

I had a lot of fun doing this page. I’m getting more comfortable with my colored pencils and how to blend and shade them. For this page, the lantern and two of the moths are colored with fountain pens. The candle and its flame and resulting light light are done with colored pencils. The remaining moths are stickers.

My favorite part of this is how the glow around the flame came out. What is your favorite aspect the finished page?
