If you could un-invent something, what would it be?
It took me a while to come up with something for this. Most things that I would want to un-invent, I can also see the value in their existence so it’s hard to actually desire to un-invent them. However, after brainstorming with my partner, I have landed on the perfect thing. Fluorescent lights.
Fluorescent lighting is the work of the devil. It serves literally no good purpose in life. It is a torture device to many. I cannot work under fluorescent lights. They give me headaches. They are distracting. I envy you if you are one of those people who can’t hear the hum. They actually increase my anxiety. They do not need to exist. Everywhere that a Fluorescent bulb exists can be substituted with an LED bulb if that sort of overhead bright lights is needed.
In an ideal world though we would use incandescent, LED, or candlelight for everything. No one needs the harsh light of fluorescents. Not to mention they are wildly in consistent in color and the way they flicker when they start to die would cause distress in even those without seizure disorders.
So, the one thing in the world I would un-invent is the fluorescent light bulb.
