Daily Prompt – February 13, 2026

Let’s see I’m 46 almost 47 and my mom is 29 years older than me and my dad 31 years older. So for my mom we are talking about what she was doing when I was 17/18 and for my dad when I was 15/16. This is important because this is how I remember time.

At my age my mom was working, by that point I think she had left the hospital for a company that did consulting type facility placements. To clarify my mom is a social worker who spent most of her career working in geriatrics and doing nursing and assisted living home placements. She was dating a neurologist. She was happy that she divorced my father 5 years ago, well thats when it finalized. She left him a couple of years before that. She was living around the corner from my grandparents, quite literally. I guess she was happy.

At my age, my dad was dating. The divorce only 2ish years ago, he was finally coming out of his depression about it. I think by that point he had started seeing the woman who would eventually become his second wife. He was working as a budget analyst for social security. That was his lifelong career. The only job he had in my lifetime. He was playing gold and part of a bowling league. He was living in the house I grew up in. The one my parents bought together. He was helping coach my cousin’s little league team. I don’t think he was happy but he was trying to be.

So yeah that what my parents were doing when they were my age. Don’t know that it was very interesting but it’s the reality of life.
