Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.
I think the most ambitious DIY project I ever took on was in my first house. We had a door in the basement that led to the deck and backyard but it had a glass panel in it. I didn’t want to put curtains over it but I did want to add a level of privacy as we lived in a townhouse neighborhood and our backyard backed up to the backyard of houses behind us.
My solution was faux stained glass. There were these paints that you could use that dried translucent and rubbery adhesive leading lines. They also had a paint that could be used for that as well. They made kits for different designs with flowers and butterflies and shapes of all kinds. I used these to create a design on that window in the door so that light would still come through but you couldn’t see through it either direction.
It came out great. So great, that much like other things that I do, it turned into multiple projects. I did the 2 panels on either side of the front door. I did the big picture window in the living room. Well I did some of it. I added elements to it to make it more decorative.
I don’t do a lot of DIY projects. At least not in how I define them. I make lots of things. But few of them have actual use or fix something. They are mostly arts and crafts for fun.
