Daily Prompt – April 3, 2026

How would you improve your community?

Hmm I guess first I need to identify which community I’m talking about. There’s the community I live in sure. There is also the other communities that I exist in that are much larger and less about geography and physical location. There’s the coloring community, the art community, the fountain pen community, kink community, polyamory community, LGBTQ+ community. Then theres work based communities like the lab tech community, the healthcare worker community, and the quality assurance community. Humans by nature are communal we live in a lot of communities not just our neighborhoods.

All of these communities have room for improvement in different ways. I’m sure I could write a book about the toxic cultures in all of them and how they could be improved. Honestly though, I do not have the energy for it. Not today, not ever. I will improve each of these communities except my neighborhood because that’s different by being a positive example and helping to educate people where I can. That’s not to say I’m perfect or an expert but I have a good perspective on the world and the capacity to understand that I have space to improve as well. In fact I have plans in the near future to write a separate post on the polyamory community. Maybe eventually I’ll write something on most of these but no promises.

As for this prompt, I’m actually going to focus on my neighborhood community. I love where I live and it’s honestly a really nice place. As far as I can tell the neighbors get along and the HOA is low key. The biggest problem we have is that the road is barely wide enough for 2 cars. I don’t see that changing because it would mean everyone losing land plus we live on a nature preserve so some areas can’t be modified anyway. What can change is how people drive and park. Now, technically the HOA says theres no parking on the street overnight but it happens. That also doesn’t stop people from doing it during the day. And I get it. Despite everyone having generous driveways there are times that someone might be parked on the street. A contractor or other person with a larger vehicle for example. But when you combine that with people driving down the middle of the road and too fast for the curvy neighborhood roads that we have, I’m honestly amazed that we don’t have accidents all the time. If I could improve anything, it would be this behavior. I just don’t know how without creating conditions I can’t stand myself. And there in lies the conundrum that stops most people from improving anything. Typically to improve something, something must also be sacrificed.
