In what ways do you communicate online?
I communicate online via text, messaging, and email when I want to reach individuals or small groups. This is both personal and work communications. Texting has become less prevalent over the years with various messaging apps replacing it but it still has its place. I have some friends and especially family that I only communicate with via text. Email is reserved for things that need to be in writing and referred back to or when communicating in other ways is a challenge. At work we use Zoom regularly. This is meeting, video calls, messaging, and I even have a Zoom phone so those phone calls are technically online too.
Within this type of online communication, there is the subset of communications that isn’t words. This is sending pictures, memes, TikToks, and Instagram reels to people both in the apps and out of them. These are easy ways to send relatable items without heavy thoughts or effort. This also includes using Discord. The few Discord servers I am active in are more about sharing our art and art processes than conversation.
Additionally, I communicate online via social media posts. This Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Discord, and occasionally still TikTok though not as much as I used to. These are easy ways to reach a broader group of people from friends and acquaintances to complete strangers depending on the location and topic. This would also include my Twitch streams and watching other streamers and being in their chats.
The final way that I communicate online is right here. This blog, this website. They are all about communicating my thoughts and feelings and sharing my creativity with anyone who finds them interesting. Did you know I had a gallery of my finished pages? When I was working it was zoom with people I work with. Mostly today it is WhatsApp since I am in Brazil and iMessage is costly to my family in the US. I would say that is used the most unless we count cat videos on Instagram I send to my friend. I would rater talk (Facetime) and see people if it really is more involved where texting can cause a break in meaning.

I agree texting can cause a lot of miscommunication. I also, however, find conversations with some people to be mentally and emotionally taxing so I reserve that for either those who i enjoy the conversations with or times when it is wholly necessary.
