Daily Prompt – January 15, 2025

I would have to say my favorite animal is a cat. There are lots of animals I love and have a connection to in some way but the cat in various forms both real and fictional is my spirit animal.

I’ve already written about my connection to the Cheshire Cat. What I haven’t discussed yet is how I believe I was a cat in a past life. Maybe one day I will write on that, when the muse strikes because it would be a writing about past lives in general and how they impact me. There is also the fact that I have had cats as pets more than any other animal.

I wasn’t allowed pets as a child. My mother doesn’t like animals and my father is allergic. When I met my ex-husband, he had a cat and grew up with cats. We had 6 at one point. And I had them when we divorced so I guess I became the crazy cat lady. We had other animals too but never as much as cats and I really related to my cats.

I didn’t have dogs until I met my current husband. I was afraid of dogs most of my life and even when that fear was abated, I didn’t really like them. They require more work than a cat, demand more attention. I don’t understand the mind of a dog. The mind of a cat, it’s essentially my mind.

I think in many ways I am still a cat and thats why they are my favorite.
