Daily Prompt – January 22, 2026

If I could make my cat understand anything it would be that we don’t understand her. Granted, I’m not sure she understands us either. Like I think she knows when we are upset or not feeling well because she becomes extra cuddly at those moments but I don’t think she understands when we talk to her other than maybe her name. Even with her name I think that more of a I recognize this sound than actually knowing the name Leela.

I just think it would be great if she understood that we don’t know the difference between one scream or another. Yes, my cat screams. She’s part Siamese, I’d say mostly but I’ve never done one of those DNA tests on her so I don’t know. The point is she talks like a Siamese cat talks. It’s not a meow like most cats, it’s a scream or a squawk. It’s both cute and annoying and also completely impossible to tell if she’s happy or sad or angry because they all sound the same. Also she can be really pissed off and still purr so we really never understand what she wants or what she’s feeling.

I feel like if she understood that, then she would communicate better. I constantly tell her to use her words. Occasionally she does, I swear. She has times where her vocalization sounds like the word no and she uses that one at just the right time. It’s adorable and a little scary.

I love my cat. I’ve had her forever. Like 15 years? I’ve lost track. But man I wish we could communicate easier!
