Daily Prompt – February 5, 2026

Describe your most ideal day from beginning to end.

I feel like this prompt shouldn’t be giving me the trouble that it is. I can tell you my ideal weather and I love to plan things often too much. I have a husband and a partner who both prefer more spontaneity than I do. Yet I am struggling to define my ideal day.

Perhaps it’s because I struggle to write about things that aren’t likely to happen in that way. I like I can write about ideal weather because it’s possible. I could write about winning the lottery because if I actually played and won, I know what I would do. But what are the chances of my ideal day happening from beginning to end.

Life doesn’t work that way, even the days we plan to the letter always have something that throws them off. Weddings are a great example. How many weddings do you know go off as smoothly as they were planned? No mishaps or delays or anything? It’s just not the way life works.

Perhaps it’s because I’ve learned to let life lead more as much as I don’t like to be out of control like that. It’s a necessity for my mental health. If I try to plan an ideal day and something throws it off, it is more devastating to me than to many. I’ve learned to recognize that. I mean even small changes that were not communicated caused me distress recently and I know the average person would have been okay with them.

I also know most of you, my dear readers, are probably saying “wow, this is a lot of overthinking for a simple prompt.” You aren’t wrong. Unfortunately, this is the way my brain processes things. I could start writing about the ideal day starting with sleeping in, followed by breakfast in bed and all that jazz. Unfortunately, as I start to write, the what ifs start pouring in too and it becomes a giant process map in my head of the different outcomes and ways to try to get back to the ideal moments.

Ultimately, it’s just easier to take each day as they come and be grateful for the joy I can find in them.

    1. I don’t disagree but that’s not how my creative brain work. I handle these prompts as authentic thought exercises that allow me to share the thoughts they inspire without over editing or spending lots of time writing drafts and trying to make them into something. They are stream of consciousness writings that get my brain working first thing in the morning.
