Daily Prompt – February 12, 2026

If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?

I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before but I really do not like discussing politics and its not something you will find on this site very often but I am committed to answering these prompts every day so lets talk about it.

I would change the requirements run for federal public office. There would be experience requirements depending on the position and most definitely term limits for all positions. I think we need to stop electing individuals who do not understand how their actions impact the people. I am not saying we need career politicians because let’s be honest that hasn’t exactly been helpful either. We need a mix of fresh blood and career hence the term limits. I think of it this way you either work your way up the government ladder or you work your way out. No coming in as President never having been in federal government and no staying in the house or senate for 30 years holding the country back.

I have lots of thoughts about how our government could be run better. I don’t focus on one law or another. Yes, theres a few things that have come up recently that I don’t like and would probably change but the reality is changing that one law doesn’t fix the problem. As long as our system is broken, and it’s very broken, a law that I fix today will be messed up again tomorrow.

This country has lost its way. It’s forgotten why it became a country and the central tenants on which it was founded. We swear by the separation of church and state yet get weird about the religious affiliation of our elected representatives and pass laws that allow individuals to act according to their religious beliefs even if it harms another in a job where they take an oath to do exactly that. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m talking about allowing medical providers to refuse to treat someone whose lifestyle or existence they don’t agree with. I’m talking about regulating abortions based on archaic religious beliefs about life not science or medicine.

Anyway, I want to have a good day, so I’m gonna go channel the rage this topic brings up in to some fun creative work and I hope you all have a great day.

  1. I can’t say I disagree with this but I also have to play devils advocate here, what you suggest we have already. The issue is the stupidity of the voting public and the heavy influence of the media and money. We can simply not vote for inexperience but look what we do. The founders gave us that ability without a set of laws to govern it. The whole experiment is the power to the people which we have relinquished to the powerful. We get what we ask for.

      1. I think more abused. The idea is good and term limits would help but the people who have to do will never reduce their power. The founders view was do the same pork of the country then go back to ordinary life not to make it a career. Storm Thurmond served 48 years retired at 100. Ridiculous. About half today are over 65.

      2. I think you meant work not pork? 😂

This is exactly my point. Our founders were different. They were actual military leaders on the battlefield with the soldiers when the time came. Not in a cushy office watching from a far. They had relationships with each other and the population they served. A promise meant something abs they were held accountable for it.

What’s the saying, adapt or die? We haven’t adapted so we are dying.
