Daily Prompt – February 18, 2026

I had to pause for a moment before writing this and go back to all my old prompt responses because I felt like I had answered this before. I hadn’t the prompt I was remembering was about the greatest gift someone could give me. The reason they felt so familiar is that the answer is essentially identical. Time.

Sure, I’ve received some really special tangible gifts over the years. Very thoughtful objects and sentimental offerings. But the gift that always means the most is when someone gives me their time. That could be focused time spent together or that they took the time to pick out that really special object to give.

You see, everything in life comes down to time. Are we willing to sacrifice our time for a person, a cause, an activity? Is our time treated with value by others? Most people don’t realize this is the key to most of the things they struggle with in life. So when someone says yes, I’m willing to sacrifice some of my time to be with you or to put effort into you, that matters. That says more than whatever they actually get me or pick to do.

I hope that as a society we can start recognizing the value of time more. It’s the most important commodity we have and it’s not as infinite as we like to think.
