Daily Prompt – March 6, 2026

I despise being asked “What’s your favorite….” It doesn’t matter what the thing is, being asked that question results in immediate shut down of my brain. Even if I have a favorite anything, my brain suddenly stalls and can’t come up with it. It makes me feel like I’m about to be judged. Like if my favorite doesn’t align with your or even something you like, I’m no longer worthy of your time.

Also, my favorites change for a lot of things regularly and often times I have more than one and it’s really hard to lock myself in to one answer. There’s moods and hyper fixations and all kinds of variables to consider.

Not to mention this question feels like it falls into the realm of small talk and I think we all know how I feel about small talk by now. I feel like this is often asked as a forced way to get to know someone but that the asker doesn’t actually care about the answer, they are just trying to do the polite make conversation thing. Which is something else I despise, I’d honestly prefer they talk about things they like and give me the organic opportunity to chime in and participate with my own thoughts and stories.

I don’t think I’m alone in this but maybe I am?
