Daily Prompt – April 18, 2026

I was on my way out of work at the hospital one day when I found an older lady who looked lost. I asked her if she needed assistance and she told me where in the building she was trying to get to. I escorted her there to ensure she didn’t get lost. During that brief walk she told me that she was there for a breast cancer check up and told me not to let life slip by. She talked about regrets and how she wanted to live life more fully. She made me promise that I wouldn’t let life become all work and no adventure. I needed to hear that in that moment. I was working pretty hard at the time. I had only recently finished my bachelors degree and was feeling like work was all I had going on.

I have definitely adopted that belief since that day. I’m not always the most spontaneous person but I do work live and not live to work. I enjoy many things outside of my job and I work very hard at leaving the job behind at the end of the day.

I think we can all learn from this woman’s perspective on life.
