Daily Prompt – May 14, 2026

I don’t know if this is technically considered a classic but I think it is and probably should be at this point. I will also likely be stripped of my nerd card for say this. I think “The Hobbit” and frankly all of the Lord of the Rings books are overrated. I found them dreadfully boring and don’t think I even finished them. It’s not that the stories are bad, I did better with the movies. Although the Hobbit still bored me to tears or rather to sleep, it general the movies were more enjoyable that the books. I’m thinking this is because they took all the narrative exposition and turned it into action. I do not enjoy books that provide so much narrative detail that the plot and the action get lost. Weave these elements into the flow of the book. Give the characters dialogue that reveals this information if it’s necessary. Don’t spend the first part of the book in the past because it’s essential to the present, have the characters in the present remember the past as it becomes relevant. It moves a story along much faster. In my opinion at least.

Don’t hate me for not loving these books ok.
