What’s a moment that made you realize you were stronger than you thought?
The moment that stands out the most is when I was in the middle of divorcing my ex-husband and he tried to tell me I couldn’t keep the house because I made less than him. My assertion was that because he wanted out of the marriage he could move out of the house. He didn’t like that. He thought we should sell the house. He mistakenly believed that he could get rich from that.
On the other hand I wanted the stability of my home. I told him I wanted to buy it. He laughed at me and told me that because I made half as much as he did, I’d never afford it. It was from that moment on I realized how strong I was and that I would prove him wrong.
I did. I was able to refinance the house in just my name, for just the remainder of the mortgage, Affordable payment even on my income and shut him up for good.
I’ve felt pretty strong and independent, especially in financial matters ever since.
