Daily Prompt – June 14, 2026

I think we will, eventually. Either out of necessity or our incessant need to colonize everything. Either way, I think ultimately it will be beneficial for humanity to have somewhere other than earth to live.

We need a reminder of how it is to start from scratch. To build and establish community. To not take so much for granted. We need to remember our roots as a civilization.

As for what life there will actually look like? It could be like any one of the sci-fi novels or movies that have been written on the topic. I personally think it will be domes of some kind that we can control the environment within while allowing the atmosphere outside to remain the native Martian environment. I am probably suffering from wishful thinking when it comes to this but it is my hope. I would hate to see us terraform Mars to be Earth like because we are already destroying this planet.

If we colonize Mars it needs to survive us not be destroyed but us. We will run out of inhabitable planets if we keep trying the things we do now. We need to learn from our mistakes and protect the environment from our industrial ways. We have to honor the ecosystem that supports our life not take it for granted.
