What are five simple exercises to do at home?
Hmm. I am thinking this is meant to get me to talk about physical exercises like pushups and squats but thats so not me. I should be more physically active but even if I was, writing about it is just *eyeroll* almost worse than politics.
Let’s talk about mental health exercises instead. Those are important too. One very simple one is breathing. No, not the kind you do without thinking, but intentional, focused breathing. It calms and centers you. Another is coloring or sketching for a few minutes a day. Now, I’m sure someone is thinking I’m saying this because coloring is my jam, and yes that’s probably got something to do with it. But, really, try it. See if your brain doesn’t feel a bit more inspired and your thoughts a bit more clear. A third one would be some kind of writing. I prefer something creative or at least thought provoking but stream of consciousness works too. Just write, like these daily prompts. It also gets the brain moving, clears cobwebs and helps focus. A fourth is similar to the writing but more intentional. Journal, find some kind of journal that works for you. There’s all kinds out there. But having a place to put the thoughts and emotions from your day, to find your gratitude, to celebrate your wins and acknowledge your loses is a key part of mental health. The final simple exercise for mental health that you can do at home, that I will recommend is to move. Doesn’t have to be a lot. Can be a lap around your living space or out to get the mail. It can be cleaning a room. But get up and move around, don’t let the bed or couch become your life.
