Daily Prompt – May 5, 2026

What’s a mystery from your own life that you’ve never solved?

Well I was going to write about a ring that went missing a few years ago. It was a gift from my girlfriend. A token of affection if you will. A vintage ring that fit perfectly on my pinky which is hard to find because I have very small fingers especially my pinkies.

I had it when we moved down to Florida. One day I was on the couch and noticed it wasn’t on my finger. I never take my rings off except to shower so this was definitely unusual. We looked high and low for that thing. Practically tore the couch apart. Couldn’t find it anywhere. I hate when I lose valued things, especially like this. Not only irreplaceable but in way where I have no idea how it was lost and can’t find it in any likely place its a mystery that drives me bonkers.

Funny enough, the other day, a coworker tells me she found a small ring under the file cabinet at her desk. We work in cubes so it’s very possible that my ring fell off and rolled under there. When she found it, she thought it might be mine based on the size and style. Yet it wasn’t where she put it when she went to give it to me. The mystery continues.

Now, I started this by saying I was going to write about that ring and clearly, I still did. But here is another mystery I have yet to solve. I have the Jetpack app for WordPress on both my phone and my IPad. I always check the daily prompt on my phone to prepare myself for what to write about but I do all my writing on my phone. Why is it that every so often, these two versions of the app can not give me the same prompt? I can usually get the iPad to fix itself with a refresh but today it was being super stubborn. First giving me 2 different new prompts and then going back to yesterday’s prompt that I answered already. I had to start the prompt on my phone and finish it on my iPad. This drives me insane.
