What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world?
I think there are many possible answers here. I think the first one that comes to mind is the movie Philadelphia. It’s a fantastic drama staring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. It really opened my eyes to the struggles in the LGBTQ+ community (the movie focuses on the Gay community because of being made in the early 90s) and the world’s view of HIV and AIDS back then. I believe it had a lot to do with me becoming very active in the AIDS activist community back then. I feel like this very gritty, very powerful movie opened my eyes to a world I would never experience. It made me want to make things better. I think it also helped me feel more comfortable saying that I was not straight and being open about that fact at an early age.
