Daily Prompt – April 14, 2026

What is your favorite restaurant?

I don’t have one. I love eating at restaurants, although it’s more of a challenge than it used to be. Having to eat gluten-free changes your perspective on restaurants for sure. I don’t have a favorite restaurant because I’ve never found one that I was like “I have to go back all the time, this is the best food ever, I can’t live without this”

That’s not to say I haven’t had really good food at a number of restaurants. It’s also not to say there isn’t a list of them I would very willingly return to regularly. I’ve also written before about how much I hate the concept of “favorite” anything. It feels like being locked in and that I’m not allowed to deviate from it. And that is especially heavy with a restaurant because food is very mood and vibe based for me. So the last thing I need or want is someone having the idea that a certain restaurant will always work for me if they want us to go out to eat.

I actually prefer trying new restaurants but that brings the gluten free challenge. Some restaurants are great at identifying their gluten free/gluten friendly options and others not so much. I’m lucky, my issues with gluten don’t include cross contamination concerns but it can still be a challenge to find a gluten free item that also satisfies whatever I’m in the mood for. This is why it can be helpful for me to review menus in advance or for whomever I’m going with to scout the menu to ensure that there are lots of GF options available.

    1. Food allergies make eating out or going to anything where you don’t have control challenging. I coordinate food for an annual work event and my co-chair and I work very hard to make the food safe and accessible for as many people as possible. Its challenging but rewarding
