What’s a word or phrase that annoys you?
Just one? There are so many. I am constantly annoyed by the English language. It’s is messy and people don’t communicate what they mean. Anyway, because I’m me, I’m not going to just do 1.
Promise, I cannot stand the word promise. I think I’ve talked about this before so I won’t go too deep into it. Sufficed to say, people over use the word promise. They say it without fully understanding the gravity of the word. This is why the concepts of empty promises and broken promises exist. If people used promise as it was meant, then they would only use it when they could deliver on that statement.
The other is “it is what it is.” This phrase is like nails on chalkboard to me. I understand people say it to acknowledge the things they can’t control but in my head it sounds like giving up. It sounds defeatist. It doesn’t sound as philosophical as I think people think it does. I feel like people over use it as well.
